Mutxamel

Costa Blanca North

Mutxamel is a municipality located approximately 9 kilometers northeast of the city of Alicante. It is close to the Costa Blanca and shares borders with Sant Joan d’Alacant, El Campello, San Vicente del Raspeig, and the city of Alicante itself, making it a good base for exploring both the city and the coast. The geography is slightly hilly, with fertile agricultural areas, particularly for tomatoes and other horticultural products, which are still part of the local identity.

In terms of sights and culture: Mutxamel boasts a rich historical heritage best explored by strolling through the old town, with churches like the 16th-century Iglesia del Salvador and the 17th-century Convent of San Francisco.

The azudes (old irrigation sluices) of Mutxamel and Sant Joan have also recently been recognized as Bien de Interés Cultural (Cultural Heritage Sites) for their historical and hydraulic significance. For nature and outdoor enthusiasts, there are various hiking trails, and projects like the "Camins d'Aigua" (Aigua Walks) provide further insight into the region's water management and irrigation history. Furthermore, the town regularly organizes cultural events, markets, and guided tours, giving you a good impression of the local traditions and atmosphere.
